Hi!  Welcome back to my blog.  Today's #MotivationMonday will focus on tips to find success today.  Let's get started!

Here's how we create a system-The Shaffer Way-It's Easy as 1, 2, 3.

1)  Step One, decide what you want.

2)  Step two, create a plan to achieve step one, write draft on it, keep revising your draft until your plan is sound and then,

3)  Step three, execute.

As curious as it may sound, sometimes it can be difficult to decide what you want.  If that is the case, here are some tips and tricks to begin.  Close your eyes and take three deep relaxing breaths.  Next, visualize your ideal life-two years from now.  What do you see yourself doing?  Who is part of this picture?  Where are you?  What are you doing on a daily basis?

Now that you have those pictures in your mind conduct a brainstorming session.  You will need a piece of paper, a pen or pencil and a stopwatch or the timing feature on your phone.  Set your stopwatch for two minutes.  Next, write down as many of the ideas as you can, as quickly as you can, on your piece of paper.  Don't stop to analyze, just capture everything you saw in your mind.  Once you have completed the exercise, go back over your list and keep only the top three ideas/dreams.

It's time to turn attention to step two-create a plan.  To establish a plan, I use the SMART method.  S is for specific.  What specifically do you want to achieve?  The more specific, the easier it will be to establish the goal.  M is for measurable.  Establish metrics and countable ways to determine if you are on track-or not.  A is for accountable.  Who will you check in with?  R is for realistic.  Be sure to evaluate your dreams and wishes based on how possible it will be to achieve your objective.  And T is for time bound.  Set a clear date and make it easy to assess whether you can meet the time deadline established.  It is recommended to break this down into smaller blocks of time and milestones.  Think of it like a roadmap.  Set incremental guideposts and objectives to let you know that you are on track.  That way you can assess your progress and make course corrections as needed.

And for all of you that are like me--data helps in decision making.  Here's the data:  Setting a goal has a 6-8% success rate.  Writing it down increases your odds by 25-30%.  Verbally sharing your goals with others raises your chances to 55-60% and having an accountability partner gives the best return on investment of time & effort--85% success.

What did this visualizing exercise tell you about your dreams and desires? In the words of Napoleon Hill--"A goal is a dream with a deadline."  Get started on your dreams today!

Check back next Monday for more #motivationmonday.  See you soon.  Warmly, Susan
